    About

    The Master of Laws in Australian Law and Practice has been designed for overseas trained lawyers who intend to practise law in Australia and are required by the Legal Practitioners Admission Board to study Australian law subjects, to ensure equivalent knowledge to Australian trained law graduates.

    Completing the Master of Laws in Australian Law and Practice will provide you with a pathway to practise as a legal practitioner in Australia while also qualifying for a postgraduate degree.

    The degree is an 80-credit point program (total of 8 subjects) completed over two semesters which is tailored to your needs. Your subjects in the Master of Laws in Australian Law and Practice will comprise of those subjects necessary to meet with requirements of the Legal Practitioners Admission Board (up to a maximum of 8 subjects), together with postgraduate elective law subjects, of your choice, to ensure you complete 80 credit points in total.

    If you intend to practise in Australia, upon completion of the Master of Laws in Australian Law and Practice, you can apply to study the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (GDLP) (also known as practical legal training (PLT). The GDLP program at Bond University prepares you for admission to legal practice.

    Recognised 4 year Bachelor degree equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree

    Students who have had their international law degrees assessed by an Australian Legal Practitioners Board and have been advised which areas of knowledge under the Priestly 11 they are required to complete in order to be eligible to apply for admissions as legal practitioners in Australia.

    English Program Requirements

    English language proficiency requirements

    Bond's programs are taught and assessed in English, so depending on your educational background and citizenship, you may be required to provide evidence that your English language ability meets our requirements. This may include submitting results from an approved English Language Test taken in the past two years - you can see the required results for the most common approved tests below. There are other ways to demonstrate English language proficiency and gain entry into this program, including demonstrating prior study in English, or other qualifications. If your qualification does not meet the English language requirements then you will need to provide an English proficiency test for admission.

    The Master of Laws in Australian Law and Practice, in conjunction with the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (GDLP) provides graduates with the qualification to apply for admission to legal practice in Australia.

    Outcomes

    Solicitor

    Once admitted to legal practice, you are eligible to work as a solicitor in a law firm, government organisation or community legal centre.

    Barrister

    Upon being admitted to the legal profession and completing the bar practice course, you are eligible to work as a barrister.  A barrister is an independent advocate and advisor and is often highly skilled in a particular area of law.

    In-house Counsel

    Upon being admitted to the legal profession, you are eligible to work as an in-house counsel, where you will use your legal skills for the benefit of a particular organisation.  You will often be practising in a range of areas of law particular to the needs of the organisation.
