Graduates will have gained knowledge in the pharmaceutical and pharmacological sciences, and developed skills in written and verbal communication in these areas. They will have delivered three presentations to their peers and lecturers during the completion of the course, and extensively utilised information technology. Graduates will have experienced problem solving in the pharmaceutical sciences, and will have studied the global context of pharmaceuticals. Social and ethical implications of these studies will be emphasised.

About
The course is designed to equip graduate students with the fundamental knowledge and skills to enhance career opportunities within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries, academic pharmaceutical research, or pharmaceutical regulatory organisations. The supervised program of research will provide candidates with the opportunity to develop a solid grounding in research methodology and enhance their skills of problem identification and problem solving, and their ability to develop and present solutions.
Requirements
Entry Requirements
Admission to most postgraduate coursework courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects, and meet English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.

Course Specific Requirements
Students are expected to have a minimum of a science-based bachelor's degree from the University of Tasmania or of another university or tertiary institution that is deemed equivalent. Applicants below credit average will be considered based on a combination of academic record and relevant work experience after graduation.

- All methods of meeting University of Tasmania English language requirements have a validity period of 2 years unless involving a country specific qualification as listed below.
- Each course offered by the University of Tasmania has a minimum English language requirement for entry as listed below. Applicants must also meet the academic entry requirements for each course.
- Applicants who qualify from a University of Tasmania program, and intend to gain professional registration to become a practitioner in Australia, may need to meet the relevant Professional Accrediting Agency's English language registration standard.
- In exceptional circumstances or cases not covered by the categories outlined below, multiple forms of evidence may be considered on a case by case basis by the Executive Director, Student Operations in consultation with the Director, Academic Quality and Standards.
- The University reserves the right to require that any applicant be required to undergo a test of English language.
Career
Graduates may be employed in a variety of areas within the biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical industries in the manufacturing, research, quality control and marketing of pharmaceuticals. Other organisations and institutions where employment could be expected include medical research institutes, hospitals and associated biomedical research laboratories, universities, government research laboratories, and government regulatory agencies. The course can be articulated with the School's Research Higher Degree programs (Master of Pharmacy by Research and PhD) in subsequent years. This degree can lead to entry into the School's higher degree programs, as stated below.
Professional Recognition
There is no anticipated formal professional recognition of this course. The award of the Master of Pharmaceutical Science will not qualify a person for registration as a pharmacist.
