    Master of Professional Psychology

    About

    This one-year postgraduate program prepares you for independent work in psychology, focusing on practical experience and skills. Learn at the Thompson Institute, a world-class hub for mental health research, teaching and clinical services, close to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. The Institute addresses mental health in the community, particularly for youth, adolescents and older community members.

    In this program you will:

    • Advance your knowledge of psychological assessment with a focus on selection, administration and interpretation of major psychological tests
    • Extend your knowledge of appropriate treatments for psychological disorders and how to deliver services ethically and within legal requirements
    • Develop skills in writing different kinds of psychological reports

    Entry Requirements

    The entry requirements for admission to the Master of Professional Psychology are:

    1. Successful completion of an APAC accredited four-year degree or fourth year in Psychology with Honours Class 2 Division I from a recognised higher education institution.
    2. Applicants must be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

    The Master of Professional Psychology offers a limited number of places.

    English language requirements

    You will also need to meet the English language requirements for this program. If you do not meet the minimum requirements, you may be able to enrol in our English Language Programs to reach the required level for most of UniSC’s programs (exceptions apply to non-standard English requirement programs).

    Additional entry information

    Applicants must also submit two referee reports (one academic and one professional). Shortlisted candidates are required to undertake an interview. There are limited places available for this program. Offers will be made on the basis of academic achievement, references and interview which are evaluated holistically by a small team of teaching staff.

    All successful applicants are required to apply for and gain provisional registration or if applicable, full registration, with the Psychology Board of Australia via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Students must have registration prior to commencing their study and this must be maintained for the duration of the program.

    Applicants with non-Australian degrees must have their qualifications assessed by the APS.

    All documentation must be submitted by the application closing date. Applications that are not full and complete by the close date will not be accepted.
