    About

    This innovative master's degree option combines WSU's world-renowned food-science graduate program with courses in organizational management. The Food Science & Management option is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of food science through courses in the food science core, as well as executive management skills gained through courses in the management core. The combination means that you will be uniquely qualified to meet the increasing demand for managers who understand both research and economics.

    All graduates will be able to:

    Graduate students learn to conduct innovative and high quality research to solve emerging problems in food science by:

    1. Demonstrating a fundamental understanding of food science knowledge and principles.
    2. Applying scientific knowledge to assess and solve food science problems.
    3. Exhibiting communication skills to convey technical information and defend scientific findings.
    4. Designing and conducting research experiments and analyzing research findings.

     

    Graduate students gain professional and leadership skills for professional positions in food and allied industries, government, or academia by:

    1. Presenting research to local, regional, and national audiences through publications and presentations.
    2. Participating in professional organizations and related activities.
    3. Obtaining successful placement in relevant industry, government, or academia positions.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements of the WSU Graduate School. These requirements include a bachelor's degree with a 3.0 or better GPA. No GRE is required. All international applicants must demonstrate a basic proficiency in English by submitting official TOEFL scores; the minimum TOEFLi score is 80. Admission requirements include a background in an area of food science, agriculture, or related field; or documented evidence of coursework or work experience in these areas. Without this relevant background, students may be required to complete 6 to 9 semester credits of prerequisite courses at the beginning of their degree program, and these courses may or may not be counted toward the degree program requirements.
