Master of Screen Production

About this Course

At ECU, we teach the art and craft of storytelling.

We explore the global environment for screen production, the ethics, the dynamics, the opportunities and the challenges of a professional career as a screen storyteller.

You’ll have the opportunity to work in professional environments on short dramas, documentaries and episodic web-series in any of the following roles: producing, directing, screenwriting, cinematography, editing and sound.

The course will also develop your professional attributes to help you find, create and sustain meaningful work across your career. This includes opportunities for professional placements with leading production companies that will assist you in the transition into professional life.

Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level

This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 9 Masters Degree (Coursework) Award.

Admission requirements you'll need to meet for this course.

• Academic Admission requirements (Band 6)

  The following course-specific admission requirements are mandatory and must be satisfied by all applicants. These requirements are in addition to or supersede the minimum requirements outlined within the Academic admission requirements band section below.

  All applicants are required to meet the published entry requirements. This course allows eligible applicants to use their Bachelor, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma studies as the basis for up to 60 credit points of Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning (CRPL), where they have completed a degree in a specified discipline (or with appropriate experience):

  You may be able to receive CRPL if you have any of the following:

  - A Bachelor degree, or major, in a related discipline*, or

  - A Bachelor degree with relevant coursework~, plus two years relevant work experience^, or

  - A Graduate Certificate, or Graduate Diploma, of Screen Production (or equivalent).

  *Related discipline refers to any Screen Production, Film, Broadcast Media, Media Production related discipline.

  ~Relevant course work includes Arts or Creative Industries with any major (other than those above).

  ^Relevant work experience constitutes Screen Industry positions to be approved by the Course Coordinator.

  All applications are assessed individually, and the exact amount of credit awarded will depend on how your previous study or experience aligns with this course.

  Academic admission requirements (Band 6) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • Bachelor degree; or
  • Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience.

With the surge in screen technologies, there is strong demand for people who can thoughtfully create high quality, ethical screen stories in a range of formats in the screen industry. This includes in a range of diverse roles, such as producer, director, screenwriter, cinematographer, gaffer, editor, sound recordist/designer, colourist, production designer and others.
