    About

    You'll learn to use mathematics to solve real problems on this degree, particularly in the field of business. There are two pathways to choose from: BSc (Hons) Mathematics or BSc (Hons) Mathematics (Computing).

    The highlights

    • Choose which pathway best suits you before you apply: our BSc (Hons) Mathematics pathway or our BSc (Hons) Mathematics (Computing) pathway
    • You will develop your knowledge of mathematical methods and techniques and get the chance to apply these to real problems through projects and placements
    • You will benefit from new digital learning technologies, for example there is bespoke course material developed in partnership with the Canadian technology company Vretta
    • You can choose to study or work abroad as part of this degree, and take a placement year  
    • Follow in the footsteps of our high-flying graduates who have gone on to work for organisations such as the London Stock Exchange, Microsoft and IBM

    Entry Requirements

    • Shahadat Al-Thanawaya Al-Aama
    • Students with an overall score of 60% would usually be eligible for the International Foundation Year
    • UKVI IELTS 4.5 with a minimum of 4.0 in all components (CEFR B1) is also required
    • If you are studying and completing any internationally recognised qualification such as A-levels; International Baccalaureate (IB) or the American Curricula from the International Schools within Jordan, then you can begin from the first year of a Bachelors degree. Please see individual course pages for specific entry requirements
    • If you have completed a recognised international foundation programme with good grades
    • Advanced entry to year 2 or 3 may be possible. You will need to supply detailed information including courses taken, grades achieved, syllabus and a grading guide

    Career

    After graduating from our BSc (Hons) Mathematics or BSc (Hons) Mathematics (Computing), you will have advanced analytical and numerical skills and also be great at problem-solving and logical thinking. These abilities are valued by employers and could lead on to careers in:

    • finance and banking
    • data science and data analysis
    • software engineering
    • mathematical research
    • innovation in teaching and digital learning technologies

    If you graduate from the Computing pathway, you'll find you are suited to other jobs too, such as computer programmer, network technician, systems architect or systems engineer.

    Some of our mathematics graduates have gone on to work for organisations like the London Stock Exchange, the Police, the Civil Service, Microsoft and IBM.

    How to Apply

    Before you begin your application make sure you have:

    • Your qualification details including grades and dates taken. You will have the opportunity to upload scanned copies of your qualification certificates/transcripts in the application. If you have no formal qualifications, you can also state this in your application
    • A scanned copy of your passport or other official photographic ID e.g. photo driving licence. This will help us verify your application to study with us. If you do not have any photo ID, we will accept a scanned copy of your birth certificate. International applicants can only provide a copy of their passport for visa assessment purposes
    • Your work experience (optional). You can upload a CV into your application or provide the company names and addresses of up to three of your employers
    • A personal statement showing your interest for the course/subject. This is a mandatory requirement and you will be able to upload it into your application. You may want to include your reasons for applying for the course, your experience in the field, how you feel you would benefit from studying and relevant information about your previous studies. You could also tell us about your non-academic experiences such as hobbies, interests, participation in any clubs, societies or voluntary work
    • A relevant reference for the course you have applied for. The reference should be in written format and supplied on company-headed paper, signed and dated from either a manager, supervisor, tutor or teacher
    • If you need to supply two references, this usually means you need to provide one academic reference from any recent study and one employer reference
