MBA International Management of Resources & Environment (IMRE)

    About

International Management of Resources and Environment (IMRE) is one of two specialisations (equivalent to minors) in the umbrella MBA programme International Business and Resources in Emerging Markets (IBRE), which is equivalent to the major. The other specialisation is International Business in Developing and Emerging Markets (IBDEM). It is aimed at students with a strong business background who are interested in the many facets of management of scarce and finite natural resources and the implication of industrial development on one particular finite resource, the global natural environment. The students will learn to solve general and specific problems in the fields of resource management, environmental protection, and sustainable development. The design of the curriculum intends to offer a well-balanced mixture of subjects in the areas of Economics & Law, Business Administration, and Environmental & Resource Management. Compulsory basic courses are aimed at providing the necessary fundamental knowledge for focussed, research-based learning. Within core electives, the students are able to set a first focus in advanced courses. The free electives offer the possibility to specialise further, using the broad opportunities of modules offered at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Interdisciplinary studies are encouraged. Accompanying modules in key enabling qualifications support the students in developing their personal skills and research abilities. Additionally, students have the possibility to improve their German proficiency. The programme culminates in the Master's thesis, which can be supervised by any professor at the university. Finally, students have to conduct a colloquium to present the main findings of their theses. Throughout their studies, students acquire the ability to recognise and assess scientific, technical, economic, and intellectual issues. They will evaluate technical solutions interdisciplinarily, particularly with regard to their economic, environmental, and social impacts. They will use these solutions to develop new production processes and innovative projects. Students gain a sound core in management competencies. Due to the general methodological knowledge obtained, students will be able to excel in a career in all industrial areas (in general) and, of course, in resource management and environmental management (in particular). Students develop competencies that allow them to recognise future problem areas in the economy and society and to integrate this knowledge into their work. The focus is to work creatively in an interdisciplinary and intercultural environment both independently and in groups.
