    Overview

    Our Medical Science programme combines hands-on learning with real-world clinical experience, focusing on both the science of the human body and the practical skills needed to make a difference in healthcare. You’ll be supported by expert staff and benefit from personalised teaching that puts your needs first.

    In the first year, you’ll build essential knowledge in chemistry, anatomy, microbiology, and professional skills. Year two focuses on understanding the healthy body and disease processes, while in your final year, you’ll conduct an independent research project and develop crucial skills in time management, critical thinking, and scientific communication.

    With practical training in techniques like ELISAs, cell culture, histology, ECGs, SDS-PAGE and western blotting, history taking, measurement of vital signs, providing first aid, you’ll gain hands-on experience that prepares you for real-world challenges.

    T Levels:

    Merit in Science (must include Laboratory science module).

    Access to HE:

    112 UCAS Tariff Access to HE Diploma ‘Science’ with 15 credits at Distinctions in science specific modules and 30 credits at Merit.

    International Baccalaureate (IB):

    28+

    with six higher level points in Chemistry or Biology

    GCSEs:

    5 x GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English and Maths

    English language requirements

    If English is not your first language an IELTS score of 6.5 overall is essential.

    English language tuition, delivered by our British Council-accredited Centre for English Language Learning, is available both before and throughout the course if you need it.

    Graduate careers

    To help students prepare for specific career choices, we provide a professional careers team, careers conferences, employment talks, and an alumni initiative where graduates offer advice based on their experiences, including those who have progressed into postgraduate medicine and dentistry, research, and clinical laboratory careers.

    Graduate opportunities exist in medical research, writing, education, commerce, and sales. This course also serves as an appropriate entry qualification for graduates wishing to pursue further study in graduate entry medicine, physician associate, pharmacy, dentistry, or NHS medical care practitioner training.
