    Overview Teaching middle school students is a positive and rewarding teaching experience. The rapid intellectual and physical development that happens between 10 and 15 years of age makes being an educator of pre-adolescents particularly exciting.It takes a very special educator to appreciate the unique age and stage of these students and philosophically, and we believe teachers need specialized training to optimize the potential of Middle School learners. You'll also get grounding in adolescent psychology and learning theory while spending an unprecedented amount of time working in middle school classrooms.Engage From Both Sides of the ClassroomAs a Middle School Teacher Education major from Champlain College, you'll take classes in Adolescent Psychology, Learning Theory and other education topics during your first semester through our Upside-Down Curriculum. You'll complete supervised field experiences in area middle and high schools that correlate with each semester's coursework, then spend the final semester of your senior year student teaching under the support and direction of a classroom teacher and a Champlain College instructor. Working closely with community partners, you'll have the opportunity to identify local issues that can be addressed through service learning projects.Build a CommunityLearn in small class-sizes from our education faculty, including classroom teachers, special educators, curriculum area specialists and school leaders. You'll create strong personal relationships with your professors and other education majors-creating the ideal environment to learn how to be a teacher. You'll have the option to work with English Language Learners (ELLs) to gain valuable new perspectives that will strengthen your abilities as a teacher. You'll also be challenged to think critically, develop global awareness and learn how to be responsive to different ways of thinking and learning.You may also choose to further explore related concepts of equality, access and human rights through our Social Justice minor. You can choose to take your international study at our campus in Montreal, Canada, or in Dublin, Ireland, where you will have the opportunity to intern in Irish classrooms.
