    About

    The level five higher education diploma in web, mobile, virtual and streaming technologies is the ideal introduction to the complex and exciting world of online, mobile and virtual reality development, it provides post further education learners and existing software developers, electronics engineers and electronic media developers with the fundamental skills to work in an industries that combine software, web, mobile and virtual reality skills to develop new and innovative interactive solutions for a wide range of industries and applications. Key things you will learn within the course are: • The development of browser and server-based software solutions that are delivered through the internet. • The production of apps that function on mobile devices such as mobile phones, smart watches and tablets. • The design and creation of responsive virtual reality worlds that can accessed through mobile and specialist VR hardware. • The design and construction of effective human computer interfaces for web-based applications, mobile devices and virtual reality. The course is designed to take a learner with limited experience in the field computing to being skilled in the techniques required for them to work in the areas of virtual reality, augmented reality and mobile applications development industries, key elements the qualification focuses on include: Creative problem solving is core: through the course of study learners will develop problem solving skills that allow them to meet the needs of clients and organisations that require software to be developed to meet specific requirements. Client focused development: to produce interesting and engaging mobile, VR and AR experiences learners will throughout the course develop the ability to be innovative and imaginative in designing software solutions that are built around the client. Learning by doing: learners will work individually and in groups to develop software products and experiment in practical labs to extend their learning beyond the theoretical elements of the subject. Security is key: within the course there is a strong focus on the requirements to create systems that are safe to use in a VR environment and work securely across networks and the internet creating systems that protect user data during transmission and storage and be compliant with current legislation. Industry relevant: Work undertaken students will be carefully aligned with the needs of industry through the colleges Institute of Technology and has been informed by current industry trends and methods of operation. Students with extreme visual impairment or epilepsy would not be able to complete large elements of the course due the nature of virtual reality, other higher education computing options are available to you within the college.

    UCAS Tariff - 64 points
    A minimum of 64 UCAS Tariff points from the following: BTEC National (90 Credit Diploma, Diploma or Extended Diploma) in a relevant subject GCE A and AS Levels with at least one subject at A Level Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher with at least one subject at Advanced Higher For mature applicants some experience may be taken in lieu of A Levels / BTECs NARIC confirmed equivalent of 64 UCAS points

    English Program Requirements

    IELTS (Academic): 6
    IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum of 5.5 in each component. Equivalent English language qualifications may be acceptable for applicants requiring a visa

    Fee Information

    Development off-site you will be expected to have a PC that is capable of running Visual Studio, Android Studio and Unity and a Video card that will interface with a HTC Vive Pro Headset (should you wish to loan a VR headset from the college). It is also recommended that the computer supports virtulisation if you want to run the mobile phone emulation in Android studio. The college provide dedicated labs with high end computing for you to work on-site so the above advice is to allow working outside of college. As a minimum it is expected that you have a Microsoft based PC capable of running Visual Studio and a broadband internet connection. The Career Degree Bursary allows students to access the remainder of the Career Degree Bursary (up to a maximum value of £500 / £250) for additional optional courses, workshops, professional memberships and resources. There is no cash alternative. Students who wish to access opportunities in excess of the Career Degree Bursary may do so at full cost to themselves.
