    This programme is ideal if you want to pursue a career as a Big Data scientist or expert, deriving valuable insights and business-relevant knowledge from massive amounts of data.

    The programme provides you with the in-depth knowledge and advanced skills that you will need to actively contribute to the development and design of systems for Big Data analytics. There is a real need in the job market for people who are expertly trained to model huge amounts of data, with demand for data-driven systems in all sectors increasing year-on-year.

    During this course, you will cover the fundamental statistical methods (e.g. data mining and machine learning), technological tools (e.g. Cloud, Hadoop, Spark), and security measures required to undertake large-scale data analysis.

    Knowledge

    • Demonstrate a comprehensive and critical understanding of all the concepts and activities for large-scale data analytics
    • Demonstrate expertise in Big Data Analytics and its business and research applications
    • A depth knowledge and understanding of Big Data Analytics projects, Machine Leaning techniques for extracting big insights and unique knowledge from Big Data stores
    • Have a critical understanding of complex computing application areas and apply skills in advanced topics to find resolution, such as cloud computing and security aspects.

    • Analyse critically and systematically a Big Data problem through identifying key requirements, alternative solutions and evaluation methods
    • Critical thinking and evidential reasoning; 
    • Exercise appropriate engineering judgement in the decision-making process
    • Conduct a dissertation applying rigorous and critical analysis approaches to identify project goals, propose and evaluate different research strategies, and finally generate a useful and effective output

    Subject-Based Practical skills

    • Design & develop large-scale systems considering security aspects
    • Use diverse Big Data resources and advanced tools and techniques to convert Big Data to Big Insights in batch and real-time format
    • Identify, critically analyse and execute a solution for a cutting-edge research/industrial computing problem
    • Produce structured and coherent written reports to document the findings, evaluations, and the proposed solution for a Big Data problem

    • Demonstrate an ability to study independently and effectively; and to be able to present and convey complex technical information to other professionals and the public;

    Entry Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree: GPA of 2.5 / 4 or overall classification of "Good" or higher
    • UK Bachelor's degree with Honours: Second Class, Second Division or higher
    • US Bachelor's degree: GPA 2.5 / 4

    We are thrilled to announce that our international scholarships for September 2022 have been approved and successful award winners are being notified. The is no need to re-apply for another scholarship as your eligibility will be automatically assessed at time of offer. 

    If you are an applicant, you need to ensure that you have submitted a complete application, (including your personal statement and supporting documents) and we will assess your application against our internal criteria.

    Scholarships range between £1,000 and £5,000 - off your first year's tuition fees- (depending on your course  programme). If you receive an offer of a place and are assessed as eligible for an international scholarship, the amount of the award will be indicated in your offer letter. 

    International Scholarships are issued at  the University's discretion and are only available to overseas, fee-paying, offer holders studying on an undergraduate or postgraduate taught programme. Different programmes may attract different amounts and it should be noted that not all applicants will be successful.

    International Scholarships are not available for:
