    About

    The study of music includes the art of performing and listening to music, the history of music, music technology, the role of music in cultures, and methods of teaching music.

    The major in music performance is part of the University's bachelor of music program. Music performance majors at WSU have five emphasis areas to choose from:

    Entry Requirements

    Secondary School

    To be considered for admission to Washington State University as a freshman, a student needs to complete at least 12 years of school, culminating in an appropriate secondary certificate or external examination. (We may consider the first year or two of university in some countries to be secondary level.)

    Schooling should include preparation in humanities, mathematics, basic sciences, and social sciences.

    WSU requires a minimum grade point average of 2.70 (on a 4.00 scale) for admission as an international freshman.

    College or University Transfer

    To be admitted to WSU as an international transfer student, you need to complete a minimum of 27 semester credits or at least 1 full year of study at an accredited post-secondary school. WSU requires a minimum grade point average of at least 2.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for admission as an international transfer student.

    Transfer Credit for A-Level Examinations

    Students who have completed GCE A-Level examinations may qualify for transfer credit. We do not grant college credit for AS-level exams. Visit our Cambridge Credit Chart for more detailed information on which exams qualify for A-level transfer credit. In order to receive transfer credit, applicants must have the awarding body send their official A-level Statement of Results to WSU.

    English Program Requirements

    WSU accepts scores from the following exams. Score reports can be uploaded into the online international undergraduate admission application at time of submission or emailed or sent by postal mail to our office. Scores must be less than 2 years old.

    Career

    Nearly 100 percent of WSU music graduates have obtained employment in their chosen fields or have been accepted into graduate programs. Many have positions throughout the nation and world in teaching, administration, the music industry, and performing.

    Gather Your Documents

    Check the admission requirements for information about academic standards and required documents.

    Your application for admission must include:

    • Official transcripts
    • Proof of English language proficiency
    • Copy of your passport identification page or national identity card

    Get the admission application and other necessary forms.

    Prepare Your Information

    You will want to prepare some information before beginning your online application.

    • Be ready to answer questions about your anticipated visa status
    • Be ready to tell us how you meet the language proficiency requirement (through an English proficiency exam score or an exam waiver)

    You may upload electronic copies of your documents when you submit your application online. If you upload transcripts they will be considered unofficial. It is best to send transcripts separately after you submit your application.

    Complete the Application and Submit Documents

    To complete the application and submit it for our review you will need to pay the $70 application fee by credit card or wire transfer. If you have questions about paying this fee please contact us.

    If you do not wish to upload documents into the application, or do not have them ready to upload and submit, you may mail or email them to the International Undergraduate Admissions Office when you submit your application.
