If you have a passion for Modern Foreign Languages and wish to teach at secondary school or college level, then this route is an ideal option for you.

This full-time, one-year course is designed to train you as a confident and inspiring secondary teacher.

At the end of this one-year degree, youâ€™ll be ready to confidently begin teaching Modern Foreign Languages in a secondary school.

Our PGCE Secondary Modern Foreign Languages course offers you the chance to build knowledge of your chosen subject area and wider professional teaching skills such as lesson planning, learning strategies, behaviour management and more.

This is achieved through a balance of study of the knowledge, skills and attitudes required by the teaching profession, the fundamentals of the national curriculum, and a dedicated focus on the development of your understanding of the role of a secondary school teacher.

In addition, you will gain vital hands-on experience of working within the classroom through our 24-week placement programme, which will develop your confidence and competence to teach effectively.

After successful completion, you will be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) so that you can begin working as a teacher in a secondary school.

Take the first steps towards your career with secondary education

This programme will enable you to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and work as a secondary Modern Foreign Languages teacher.

Many of our previous students have progressed in their careers and now hold senior posts in their schools.

How to Apply

You can apply for up to five different degree courses at up to five different institutions through UCAS (the national Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). Your application is sent to all five universities at the same time.

Each course has a UCAS code that you will find on our course pages or in our prospectus. You will need to know the UCAS code for the course you want to apply for when you make your application. The UCAS code for the University of Chichester is (CHICH) C58.

You will need to include the following documents:

Personal Statement – A written piece of about yourself; why you have chosen the course you are applying for, and why you want to come to the University of Chichester
Copies of Qualifications to date – Translated into English
Proof of English Language Level – If English is not your first language
Two academic references
For a Music course we will need a DVD of a musical performance for 5 minutes long. We also require an academic essay written in English.
For Dance we need a web link of two performances, one of which should be contemporary and at least three minutes long. We also require an academic essay written in English.

When your application is received by the Admissions Department, the Admissions Tutor for your chosen subject will consider your application. We aim to reply to you within two weeks.

Conditional Offer – if you have not yet met all the entry requirements. The conditions may be academic, for example the successful completion of a current course of study or obtaining a particular IELTS score.
