    Careers and Employability

    Graduate careers

This degree provides the advanced scientific background and industry knowledge highly valued by pharmaceutical employers worldwide. Our graduates have secured roles at companies like Teva (UK), PCI (UK), Pharmaron (UK), Roche (Switzerland), and Vertex Pharmaceuticals. You'll be prepared for research and development roles, as well as opportunities in patent filing, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, technical marketing, and sales. Your scientific expertise will open doors in non-pharmaceutical industries, with alumni working at Tata Steel, the NHS, and the cosmetics industry. Many pursue MSc degrees, while others choose teaching careers.

    Careers support

We aim to make you ‘work-ready’. Throughout the course, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to apply your skills and knowledge using industry standard equipment, processes and frameworks, and solve real-world problems alongside industry pros. You’ll also get the chance to work in the industry on a placement. This experience makes you highly attractive to employers looking for graduates who can hit the ground running. Industry-specific employability-focused modules and embedded professional development help you find and pursue work opportunities, and our dedicated careers team support you with applications and interviews.

    Industry Partners

Through our teaching staff’s industry links and our exceptional careers services, we’re able to connect you with a range of industry partners who deliver guest lectures and support with projects and placements. Our Science Futures event welcomes representatives from a range of key organisations such as the NHS and PCI Pharma Services. This allows you to engage with potential employers, exploring career options and forging relationships that could open doors later on.

    Sandwich years

A sandwich year enables you to apply the knowledge gained during your degree to real-world work situations. You’ll equip yourself with a transferable skillset and gain invaluable work experience that will help you to stand out to potential employers in future job applications. A sandwich year also provides a fantastic opportunity to network and, if you impress your employer, you may even find you have a job waiting for you when you graduate. Many employers like to take on dedicated employees as showcased via a sandwich year placement scheme.
