    About

Overview We are committed to working with students in an inclusive and friendly environment and helping them achieve their professional and personal goals. Our program is accredited by the American Chemical Society and all sub-disciplines of chemistry -- inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, biological and polymer -- are well represented by our diverse faculty. The department offers majors in chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry teaching, physical science teaching and environmental science. Our faculty members are active research scientists but our primary commitment is to provide a quality undergraduate education in chemistry.Learning outcomesThe Physical Science (Teaching) Department at Winona State University, in cooperation with other science departments and the College of Education, has developed a Minnesota Board of Teaching (BOT)-approved program. Students should be aware that the program described below may continue to change as the BOT considers changes to the Science Licensure Programs. Students will need to work closely with their academic advisor to ensure that they will be able to graduate with a BOT-approved degree.Successful completion of the Chemistry Teaching program will enable a student to apply for 9-12 high school chemistry. Successful completion of the Physical Science Teaching program will enable a student to apply for licensure in both 9-12 high school chemistry and 9-12 high school physics upon achieving passing scores on the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examination (MTLE) basic skills, content, and pedagogy tests. The major meets Minnesota teacher certification requirements. Wisconsin certification requires minor modifications. Students preparing for certification in other states should consult with the department to learn of any necessary modifications. I want to find another Bachelor Course
Programs that include “ACS” in the title have met the guidelines established and approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS). Graduates of these Physical Science (Teaching) programs at Winona State University will be certified by ACS as professional chemists.
