    About

    Why choose this program?

This program is designed as an apprenticeship program, allowing you to work closely with a faculty member who has agreed to supervise your research. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary research, scholarship, and independent thinking rather than on course work.

Choose from two streams of study:

Experimental Stream: Experimental Psychology is the study of human and animal behaviour and the neural mechanisms controlling this behaviour.

Neuroscience Stream: Neuroscience integrates psychology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy and other branches of the life sciences into a single discipline concerned with the structure and function of the brain.

Direct admission to PhD from a Bachelor's degree

Clinical Psychology at Dalhousie is a fast-track program open to applicants who do not hold a Master's degree. Students who hold a Bachelor's Honours degree are initially admitted at the Master’s level, where they will complete 1–2 years of coursework (and a research project, not a Master's thesis), before transferring into the PhD program.

    Transferring from Master's to PhD

Only MSc Psychology and Neuroscience students who were assessed and approved for admission into the PhD Clinical Psychology program are eligible to transfer to the PhD.

Exceptional Admission and Prior Learning Assessments

The Faculty of Graduate Studies will consider exceptional admission requests when requested by the graduate program. Please contact the program directly if you wish to enquire about exceptional admission or prior learning assessment procedures. Not all programs support exceptional admission requests.
