    About

The Textiles Graduate Program gives students an in-depth interdisciplinary knowledge of textiles including the social and physical sciences in relation to textile usage, and the ability to design and conduct research in textiles and to interpret and communicate the results and conclusions. Students in the program can emphasize either the physical science, behavior aspects, or the integrated studies of textiles and fibrous materials. Research areas include chemical, physical, biochemical, and mechanical properties of fibers and polymers as well as fibrous assemblies, including composites, paper, and nonwovens. Extensive specialized fiber, polymer, and textiles research facilities and a behavioral research laboratory are available. The members of the graduate program include the faculty of the Division of Textiles and Clothing as well as faculty from other departments representing related fields such as cultural studies, design, psychology, consumer science, chemistry, engineering, and materials science.

    Entry Requirements

UC Davis offers admission to applicants who have the highest potential for graduate study and who, with the benefit of graduate education, are most likely to contribute substantially to their academic or professional fields through teaching, research or professional practice. UC Davis views as a high priority the enrollment of graduate students from different backgrounds and demographic groups.

    1. A minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) from the institution where you have earned or will earn your bachelor's degree.
    2. By the time they enroll, successful applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent that is comparable to a degree from the University of California both in distribution of academic subject matter and in scholarship achievement. Regional accreditation for U.S. institutions and authorization by a national higher education authority for international institutions (at the time the degree was earned) are used as the eligibility standard.
    3. Application fee ($120 for domestic applicants, $140 for international applicants, or possible fee waiver for participants in approved Graduate Preparatory Programs)

Meeting this requirement through the AP exam, IB exams or transferable college courses also satisfy the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR).
