    World Literature

    About

Overview The major in World Literature strongly encourages reading in at least one language other than English, thus emphasizing that language and literature are intimately related. Students learn to examine literature from multicultural and multi-lingual standpoints and concomitantly become familiar with the major schools of literary criticism and theory. In addition, students in the World Literature program of Case Western Reserve University have the opportunity through World Literature to investigate aesthetic expressions other than literature, such as the visual arts, theater, film, and music. At the core of such courses lies the firm belief that literature and the arts are in permanent dialogue, providing students with an interdisciplinary perspective in which cultural history and aesthetic visions coexist. The World Literature Program is associated with other departments and programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, including Classics, Cognitive Science, English, History, Modern Languages and Literatures, Philosophy, and Religious Studies.
