    Entry requirements

    You must have a completed recognised 3 or 4 year bachelor degree with a minimum grade point average (GPA) score of 4.00 on QUT's 7 point scale (where 4 is a Pass); and

    You must also meet first teaching area prerequisites.

    Prerequisites: first teaching area

    For the first teaching area at least three quarters of a year (6 QUT units) of successful full-time recognised degree (or higher) study completed in a major area or equivalent. Completed study can be from different courses.

    You must nominate your first teaching area in your application. If you are not eligible for your nominated first teaching area you will be considered for an alternative first teaching area. If you are offered a place, you will only be offered one first teaching area which will be detailed in your offer.

    Assumed knowledge: second teaching area

    For the second teaching area at least half a year (4 QUT units) of successful full-time recognised degree (or higher) study in a minor area or equivalent. Completed study can be from different courses.

    You must nominate your second teaching area on enrolment.

    Your first and second teaching areas must be different.

    First teaching area prerequisites

    Dance education

    Either

    • completion of at least three quarters of a year of full-time, degree (or higher) study (6 QUT units) in dance with a minimum of both:
      • one eighth of a year (1 QUT unit) in dance theory; and
      • one eighth of a year (1 QUT unit) in dance practice.
    • a recognised bachelor degree in dance.

    Drama education

    Either

    • completion of at least three quarters of a year of full-time, degree (or higher) study (6 QUT units) in drama with a minimum of both:
      • one eighth of a year (1 QUT unit) in drama theory; and
      • one eighth of a year (1 QUT unit) in drama practice.
    • a recognised bachelor degree in drama or acting.

    English education

    Completion of at least three quarters of a year of full-time, degree (or higher) study (6 QUT units) covering one or more of:

    • English (communication, grammar, linguistics, literature)
    • cultural studies
    • film and media studies.

    Film and media education

    Completion of at least three quarters of a year of full-time, degree (or higher) study (6 QUT units) in film and media.

    Mathematics education

    Either

    You are required to nominate your second teaching area upon enrolment in program. We assume that you have completed at least half- year (4 QUT units) in the second teaching area through your prior higher education studies.

    Minimum English language requirements

    We accept English language proficiency scores from the following tests undertaken in a secure test centre. Tests must be taken no more than 2 years prior to the QUT course commencement.

    Careers and outcomes

    As a secondary specialist, you will be prepared to teach in schools with your career guided by, but not limited to, your two teaching areas. Your qualification can also allow you to work in other locations in Australia and overseas.

    Professional recognition

    This course meets professional teaching standards for the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership and Queensland College of Teachers. Graduates are eligible to apply for teacher registration. Applicants seeking teacher registration in Australia may be required to provide evidence of English Language proficiency levels. Further information is available from relevant registering bodies.

    Early exit

    If you decide you do not wish to complete a course that leads to teacher registration you can consider an option to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies as an alternative education qualification.
