    About

Carleton’s program in Migration and Diaspora Studies allows students to address such interconnected issues as refugee movements, migration, mobility and diasporas that inform the modern world. It brings together a broad spectrum of academics and practitioners from the humanities, social sciences and public affairs to examine the cultural, social, economic and political implications of the movement and transnational settlement of people. The program supports historically-informed and forward-looking approaches to the analysis of cultural and social identities, diversity and integration, exile and memory, forced migration, and refugee communities.

We offer two graduate diplomas (GDips), as well as a Master of Arts (MA). The Type 2 GDip allows Carleton students enrolled in another graduate degree program (MA or PhD) to gain credentials that supplement their home degree. The Type 3 direct-entry GDip allows non-Carleton students to gain additional graduate-level credentials in this field for professional or academic purposes.

Students who perform well in the Diploma have the option to apply to the MA Program and count their GDip credits towards the MA degree.
