The Music Performance: Organ, Guitar at McGill University is a Bachelor program designed for students who want to build the knowledge and skills required for careers in this field. Delivered on campus across its Downtown (Montreal) Campus and Downtown (Montreal) campuses in Canada, the program is taught in English and takes 4 years to complete. Students study in a Full Time environment while preparing for future professional opportunities.
Performance majors studying organ or guitar are trained at a professional standard. You will take courses in performance, music theory and history, musicianship, professional training, and more.
You will be encouraged to reach your potential as a performer through private lessons with renowned faculty as well as performing opportunities with our orchestral, jazz, opera and choral ensembles, and chamber music activities.
Applicants are reviewed on their high school transcript with particular emphasis on yearly averages and results in prerequisite subjects (prerequisite subjects must have been completed during the last two years of high school).
McGill welcomes qualified applicants from throughout Europe, including from schools in Bologna signatory countries. Applicants will be considered for admission into McGill degree programs of similar duration as those at comparable, research-intensive universities in Europe. Accordingly, qualified applicants to the faculties of Arts, Education, and Management at McGill, with a Bologna-compliant diploma that leads to a three-year undergraduate program in Europe, will be admissible to a three-year program at McGill. Students in Management will be required to complete additional mathematics coursework.
The Organ, Guitar program is aimed to help you to pursue a career in performance. However, your courses in music theory, history, professional skills and diction will allow you to pursue many different career paths after graduation. You can even choose to pursue performance while holding other jobs related to music.
