    About

    The undergraduate Certificate in Spanish jointly offered by the Trent Centre for Language and Linguistics provides students with an opportunity to improve their Spanish language skills and to receive recognition for their proficiency level for the purposes of career advancement or further study.

    This program guarantees that students have made successful progress in the language and certifies an advanced intermediate level of Spanish, specifically Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The certificate may be used to bridge into undergraduate degree programs, for professional upgrading, or be complementary to degree studies.

    Students who have fulfilled the requirements for a degree may graduate with a Spanish Certificate if they have successfully completed the following 2.5 credits:

    • SPAN 1001H and 1002H (or SPAN 1000Y)
    • SPAN 2001H and 2002H (or SPAN 2000Y)
    • LING 1001H or 3060H
    Demonstrate an advanced level of the Spanish language and earn a certificate which will help open up more opportunities for employment and continuing studies
    • Hone and demonstrate your advanced Spanish language skills to future employers
    • Establish a strong foundation of language and linguistics principles for continued education and learning
    • Credits may be used concurrently toward the Option in Languages and the Option in Linguistics
    • Courses taken as part of this undergraduate certificate may be used concurrently to satisfy university degree requirements

    Tawjihi (General Secondary Education Certificate) with a minimum overall mark of 75%.

    How to Apply

    You are encouraged to apply to Trent as early as possible as some programs have limited enrolment. 

    • Ontario secondary students will use the OUAC 101 application form at www.ouac.on.ca/101
    • If you are not currently registered as an Ontario secondary student, please apply using the OUAC 105 application and refer to the special application instructions below. www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-105/
    • Domestic students (Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents) not currently enrolled in an Ontario high school, and wishing to only apply to Trent University, can do so through the Trent direct application If you are an international applicant or are applying to multiple universities/programs, please apply at www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-105/ 

    The OUAC website has many helpful resources such as Frequently Asked Questions, Video Tutorials and step-by-step guides.

    Access Codes:

    If you are currently enrolled in an Ontario secondary school, guidance counsellors will provide you with access codes (school number, student number, temporary PIN) to access the OUAC site and application process.

    All other applicants will create user profiles on the OUAC site and will not require access codes.
