    Entry Requirements

    Admission requirements

The following are minimum requirements to be considered for entry into the Master of Applied Human Nutrition (MAHN) program. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.

To be considered for admission into the Master of Applied Human Nutrition (MAHN) you must meet the following:

    • Graduated (or will be graduating in spring convocation of 2026) from a Canadian accredited dietetic/nutrition undergraduate program within the last 3 years or have met upgrading requirements as assessed by the College of Dietitians of Manitoba (CDM).
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 credit hours (or two years equivalent) of university level course work. Courses that are in progress at the time of application are not included in the original GPA calculation, however a 3.0 must be maintained to meet the conditions of an admission offer.
    • It is strongly recommended that applicants have a minimum grade of ‘B’ or equivalent in all upper level 3000/4000 (third or fourth year) Nutrition courses (HNSC for UM students).
    • If academic upgrading was required by CDM, a grade of 'B' or higher is required in all courses taken.
      • CDM may require Academic upgrading for applicants that are 1) internationally educated or 2) have graduated from a Canadian accredited dietetic/nutrition undergraduate program more than 3 years ago. Applicants within these categories should consult with CDM before applying.
    • Eligible for registration as a Student Dietitian with CDM.
    • Applicants with Academic or non-Academic Misconduct notations on their transcripts will not be eligible to apply.

International students who completed the University of Manitoba B.Sc. in Human Nutritional Sciences are eligible to apply for the MAHN program, and if accepted, will pay tuition based on their residency status.

Unlike many other graduate studies programs, applicants do not require advisors or supervisors to apply to the program.

    Career

    Enjoy a fulfilling career

Dietitians are trustworthy and credible sources of nutrition knowledge and advice. They are regulated health professionals who work in a variety of settings such as: community clinics and public health agencies where disease prevention is key; hospitals or long-term care facilities where treatment and rehabilitation are goals; and food service where they provide safe, nutritious food choices. To work as a nutrition professional within these areas, one must be a Registered Dietitian.

Dietitians also work in other areas. The food industry, pharmaceutical companies, and government departments employ dietitians to work in nutrition promotion and marketing; nutritional health monitoring; and policy development. Some dietitians work in their own private practice where they counsel individuals and groups and/or consult to business and other organizations.
