The MA in English program focuses primarily on English literature. Students will explore a wide range of periods, genres and critical approaches and will have the option either to undertake a scholarly or creative writing thesis or to complete a coursework MA.

Admission requirements
The following are minimum requirements to be considered for entry into the program. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
Admission decisions are based on the qualifications of the applicant as well as the ability of the Department of English, Theatre, Film & Media and the University of Manitoba to serve the applicant’s intended program of study and area of specialization.
In addition to the admission requirements described here, all applicants must meet the minimum admission and English language proficiency requirements of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
To be considered for admission to the English (MA) program, you must have a minimum of a four-year honours degree in English literature (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in prior English studies and an overall GPA of 3.0.
Pre-master’s admission requirements
To be considered for the pre-master’s program you must have a minimum of a three-year bachelor’s degree in English literature with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last two full years of university study. Completing the English Pre-MA year does not guarantee entry into the English MA program. A separate application will be required.
