Entry Requirements
Academic requirements:
- Completion of a research project or thesis-based master's-level degree in Health Sciences, Health Informatics, Kinesiology or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Minimum B+ average (GPA: 3.3 on a 4.3 scale or 77 to 79 per cent).

English test
You have achieved the required proficiency on one of the tests in the English language acceptable to the university as listed below. We encourage applicants to register for an English language proficiency test prior to the application deadline. Test results dated more than 24 months prior to the date of the application for admission will not be considered.
A hard copy of the test score is not required. Applicants may upload a copy of the official test score, using the upload links we provide to you, after your application is submitted. Ontario Tech may verify the results of the English language test.
It is important to note that English language proficiency requirements may be higher for employment, including teaching assistant duties.
Please note: If you take an approved English language proficiency test, its score shall prevail as the determining evidence of your English language proficiency.

Minimum score: 70 overall. All sub-scores must be a minimum of 60.

Acceptable only for the listed course-based programs below and for the Spring/Summer 2026 and Fall 2026 intakes.
120 overall for MBAI, MFDA, MITS, and Master of Engineering (MEng).
130 overall for Master of Education (MEd), Doctorate of Education (EdD), and Master of Health Science (MHSc) course-based only.
Please note that if you are applying to both a course-based and thesis-based program at Ontario Tech, you will be required to submit an acceptable English test for the thesis-based program.
IELTS
6.5 overall for most programs.
7.0 overall for MBAI, MFDA, Master of Arts in Education, Doctorate of Education (EdD), and Master of Health Science (MHSc).
We only accept the IELTS Academic test.
TOEFL (Internet-based)
For tests written after January 21, 2026:
- For most programs: Overall 4.5, no section score below 4.0.
- For Master of Arts in Education, Doctorate of Education (EdD), Master of Health Science (MHSc), MBAI, and MFDA: Overall 5.0, no section score below 4.0.
For tests written before January 21, 2026:
- For most programs: Overall 83 with minimum Listening: 20; Reading: 20; Speaking: 19; and Writing: 20.
- For Master of Arts in Education, Doctorate of Education (EdD), and Master of Health Science (MHSc): Overall 92 with minimum Listening: 20; Reading: 20; Speaking: 19; and Writing: 20.
- For MBAI and MFDA: Overall 100 with minimum Listening: 20; Reading: 20; Speaking: 19; and Writing: 20.
