    About

The Certificate of Indigenous Language I is a 5-course program of study which will familiarize the student with the spoken and written forms of a select Indigenous language. Languages of specialization currently available include, but are not limited to, Cree, Saulteaux (Ojibwe), Dene, Dakota and Nakota.

This certificate can also serve as a building block towards more advanced study, including an Arts minor, the Certificate of Indigenous Language II, or (for Cree and Saulteaux) a full degree program, and specialized study in language instruction through Indigenous Education.

*Note: all program courses specific to individual Indigenous languages must be completed in the same language.

The Certificate of Indigenous Language II is a 10-course program of study which builds on the Certificate of Indigenous Language I by adding advanced studies in the chosen language, including in its linguistic structure, literature and culture. Languages of specialization currently available include, but are not limited to, Cree, Saulteaux (Ojibwe), Dene, Dakota and Nakota.

This certificate can also serve as a secondary building block towards more advanced study, including specialized study in language instruction through Indigenous Education, and (for Cree and Saulteaux) a full Arts degree program.

*Note: all program courses specific to individual Indigenous languages must be completed in the same language.
