    About

Gain in-demand AI skills with the Master’s Certificate (MCert) in Artificial Intelligence in Engineering. This focused three-course Software Systems Engineering program equips you with the knowledge and expertise needed to thrive in the rapidly growing AI field within the Information Technology sector.

Is the MCert in Artificial Intelligence in Engineering right for you?

The MCert in Artificial Intelligence in Engineering is an excellent option if you are:

    • A recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in software systems engineering, computer science or a related field looking to explore graduate studies through a certificate program before committing to a full program. The courses can be applied toward the Master’s of Engineering in Software Systems Engineering.
    • A current graduate studies student aiming to deepen your expertise or complete a shorter program. The certificate can be embedded within the Master of Engineering (MEng) in Software Systems Engineering or the Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Software Systems Engineering.
    • An Industry professional looking to expand your knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and stay ahead in the field.

    What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence (AI), which involves the creation of systems capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence, is one of the most transformative fields in technology today. The Certificate program covers different AI Technologies and their applications to diverse fields.

Some of the course options available at the U of R include:

ENSE 811 - Practical Deep Learning

This course is an elementary introduction to a machine learning technique called deep learning (also called deep neural nets), as well as its applications to a variety of domains, including image classification, speech recognition, and natural language processing. Students will be expected to undertake a course project and several programming assignments to implement the concepts learnt in class

ENSE 817 – Applied Artificial Intelligence

Concepts treated include object recognition, computer vision, and robotics. Applications of these concepts to engineering problems will be presented. A project, applying artificial intelligence concepts, will be performed by the student.

ENSE 883 - Software Systems Architecture

This course focuses on back-end software systems architecture including design concepts, database concepts, and back-end software systems. Distributed software services of system architectures ranging from enterprise to industrial applications.
