Theatre - Production & Design, BFA Honours
Gain practical, hands-on experience in specialized areas of production and design, including wardrobe, carpentry, lighting, sound, costume, set design, and stage management. Through labs and workshops, you’ll get hands-on with scenic carpentry, props, scenic art, costuming, lighting, sound, and video for live performance. You’ll learn directly from industry pros in state-of-the-art facilities, making connections in Canada’s biggest theatre, film, and television hub, graduating ready to bring productions to life on any stage or screen.

While all Theatre majors are required to take Introduction to Stagecraft, students with direct entry into Production & Design are also eligible to enroll early into Introduction to Production Practicum for the Winter term, allowing them to work as apprentice crew heads on the Theatre@York productions alongside upper-year students, supervising the first-year crews. Progression through the program develops more specialized skills, greater responsibility in productions, and increased opportunities for professional growth and professional networking.

- Management – production management, technical direction, stage management
- Engage in all aspects of production and design for live performance, from front-of-house to sound design.
- Work hands-on with all aspects of design and production for shows presented by Theatre@York.

- The Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Theatre (360-seat theatre with sprung floors, a comprehensive lighting system with lighting grid, fly system, trap, & loading dock, with live video/audio feed to backstage;

- Black Box theatre (with large loading doors, full lighting grid and comprehensive technical equipment);
- Carpentry Shop (comparable in size to the Shaw Festival's carpentry shop) has a welding area, props area, tool rooms and the only moving paint wall in Canada;
