During the first few semesters, students take four basic courses in Biblical Theology, Historical Theology, Systematic Theology and Practical Theology, each of which opens up a specific perspective on theology as a science of the Christian faith, offering first insights into theological issues, methods and content. Parallel to this, from the second semester onwards, students start exploring in depth how faith in the God of Jesus Christ is reflected in the Bible, history and present-day experience and takes on relevance for the thoughts, lives and actions of people in the world today. Students learn to provide information about the content and forms of the Christian faith; to discuss ethical problems from a theological perspective; to perceive the biographical dimension of faith; to reflect critically on religious positions and traditions in the Church and in society, and to classify them in the fields of religious education. Students who did not take Latin at school can easily acquire the basic knowledge of Latin required for the Masters Teacher Training Course for Technical Education.

How to Apply

You can use our online application portal to enrol any time between 1 June and 30 September. To be able to do this, you will need a qualification for admission to higher education. At the end of the online application, you will automatically be forwarded to a cover letter (the so-called application for enrollment). Sign this application for enrollment (handwritten or digital) and put it together with the required documents into one PDF document, which you can then upload using the upload link provided. The required documents include your qualification for admission to higher education (e.g. Abitur) and any other supporting documents such as practical training certificates or evidence of language proficiency. We also need proof of your health insurance and evidence that you have paid the semester fee. At the end of the online application, all required documents are listed and must be uploaded as a scan of the original documents by September 30th, 11:59 p.m. Please do not forget to upload your photo for the LeibnizCard . You can find information on this in the application for enrollment at the end of the online application. In September, you will receive your enrolment documents, an invitation to the welcome event for new students and information about any preparatory courses that may be offered. Please note that some degree programmes offer preparatory courses well before term starts.
