The first semesters are devoted to the necessary foundations in mathematics, physics, computer science and the subject-specific basics of geodesy and geoinformatics, surveying, curve fitting and statistics. Students learn programming languages and the foundations of database systems and digital image processing. Further on in the course, students additionally take special subjects such as positioning and navigation, remote sensing, and monitoring environmental change using aerial and satellite images. Cutting-edge research methods and results are directly incorporated into the programmes seminars, projects and Bachelors theses. Students are therefore given the opportunity to specialise and focus on specific areas without limiting their career options.

Students should enjoy using computers and should be interested in the links between mathematics and science. The ideal students are also open to new lines of scientific enquiry, creative, open to criticism and responsible-minded.
English language skills are beneficial but not essential.

We also need proof of your health insurance and evidence that you have paid the semester fee. At the end of the online application, all required documents are listed and must be uploaded as a scan of the original documents by September 30th, 11:59 p.m. Please do not forget to upload your photo for the LeibnizCard . You can find information on this in the application for enrollment at the end of the online application. In September, you will receive your enrolment documents, an invitation to the welcome event for new students and information about any preparatory courses that may be offered. Please note that some degree programmes offer preparatory courses well before term starts.
