    About Bachelor of Sociology

    Sociology is an empirically oriented social science that serves the investigation of current, past and future social life. Sociologists have to have a broad knowledge of theories but also know how to apply methods when investigating various social phenomena. Furthermore, they are supposed to help find solutions to social problems through theoretical and empirical analyses. Since sociologist can work in a large variety of fields, this programme aims at imparting broad sociological knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical issues instead of offering extremely specific specialisations. The core area consists of introductory and basic modules as well as advanced and specialised modules and a bachelor’s thesis. The module “Introduction to Sociology” offers a first introduction to the field, contents and methods. The basic module “Methods of Empirical Social Research” offers an introduction to data collection and analysis. Students also have to attend the following modules: “Sociological Theory”, “Microsociology” and “Macrosociology”. The modules of the core area are complemented with courses in a supplementary area and in general aptitudes as well as a professional internship (300 hours).
