    About Diploma in Mechatronics

    Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary engineering development approach that solves mechanically oriented tasks through spatial and functional integration of mechanical, electrical and information processing subsystems. At the TU Dresden, the study programme in Mechatronics is an integrated five-year (single-tier) programme leading to a Diplom-Ingenieur (Dipl.-Ing.) degree. The programme thus includes the Bachelor as well as the Master level. The Diplom degree is equivalent to the Master’s degree. The programme is modularly structured. It is divided into four semesters of basic studies and six semesters of advanced studies, including a 20-week internship in industry. During the basic studies (1st–4th semesters), the fundamentals of mathematics and natural sciences as well as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science are taught. Having passed the basic studies, the student receives the intermediate exam certificate (Vordiplom-Zeugnis). During the advanced studies (5th–10th semester), mandatory modules in field theory, power electronics, control engineering, drive engineering, measurement and sensor technology and embedded controllers have to be attended. In addition to the mandatory modules, the student choses elective modules to specialise in his/her area of interest. Recommended module combinations guide the students to one of the following profiles: - Vehicle mechatronics (e.g. multi-body systems, motor vehicles, combustion engines, electrified mobility) - Mechatronics in mechanical engineering (e.g. hydraulics/pneumatics, machine construction, robotics, mobile work machines) - Macromechatronics (e.g. electric drive technology, control engineering, railway vehicles, aerospace engineering) - Micromechatronics (e.g. electronic systems and technology, process control engineering, biomedical engineering, micro-electro-mechanical-systems, sensors)
