University of Bayreuth offers the Bachelor of Journalism and Media Culture in Germany (online) as a full-time degree delivered online at its Bayreuth campus in Germany. Taught in German, the program equips students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for journalism and media culture in germany (online) and related professional fields. About Journalism and Media Culture in Germany (online)

The specialised course "Journalism and Media Culture in Germany" can only be chosen in combination with and in addition to the language course "Language and Society in Modern Germany". The specialised course in the afternoon takes up eight hours per week and the language course in the morning 20 hours per week. Our weekly programme will be rounded off by additional offers like seminars on German culture, an international choir, a theatre workshop, film nights, sports and a literature cafÃ©. These additional offers amount to at least 12 hours per week. In this course, you will become familiar with regional aspects relating to media culture in Germany: Which news aspects comprise an editorial department? Which kinds of texts and articles exist? What is the everyday life of a journalist like? How is radio broadcasting structured? What is the relationship between private channels and those financed through licence fees? What does cross-media journalism mean? In which direction are the media developing? Who reads weekly news magazines, daily papers or special interest magazines, and who prefers surfing the news portals on the internet? These are issues to be discussed and questions that will be answered in the specialised course. Comparison with other countries will be of interest, as well as our own activities, for instance when we design our own summer university blog. Of course, journalists do not spend time exclusively in front of the PC, at the cutting table, in the studio or on the phone. They strive to get out there; after all, it is necessary to experience the issues first-hand. Therefore, the students will also take part in small excursions such as a trip to the print office of the local press or to the editorial offices of the local media.
