About Bachelor of Law and Economics

The degree program Law and Economics, as the name indicates, focuses on the interface between law and economics. The economic analysis of law examines the effect of legal regulations on human behavior. The goal is to compare the actual impact of a law with the effect intended by legislators. The purpose of such analysis is to assess whether a given legal norm can achieve its intended goals. Such assessments are important whenever new legal norms or the interpretation of existing ones could or are intended to influence human behavior. Consequently, the program consists of the study of law and the economic analysis of law. In law courses, students acquire in-depth knowledge of the different core areas of law (civil, criminal and public law) and learn to apply laws to specific cases. This includes the ability to formulate case solutions in the form of expert legal opinions. In addition, the degree program integrates fundamental courses from the economics curriculum such as mathematics, statistics, and microeonomics. In cross-disciplinary courses, students learn to apply economic methods to legal questions (economic analysis of law). The language of instruction is German. Possible lines of work: Corporate legal departments, corporate legal consulting, consultancies (consulting for litigation strategies), contract and compliance management (optimization of contracts, conflict management), public administration, academia (teaching/research on universities, research institutions, etc.)
