About Master of Computer Science

The subject of Computer Science in the Master of Education degree program has a dual focus. One key area focuses on the knowledge requirements stipulated in the core instruction plan for computer science and the educational standards pertaining thereto. The second key area focuses on specific contents, methods and tools to conduct computer science lessons that not only meet subject content requirements but are also motivating and theoretically well-grounded following the active learning approach. Students furthermore accumulate knowledge in order to reflect on the nature of specialized instruction, examine and probe into teaching concepts and further develop and improve teaching strategies and methods based on latest research findings. Students are familiarized with general technical topics in the areas of algorithms, graphics/ visual systems/ audio, information and communications management as well as intelligent systems and discuss research- and theory-oriented questions. While students in the bachelor's degree program focus on gaining subject-specific knowledge, the Master of Education degree program puts a stronger emphasis on educational sciences and subject didactics. In courses on subject didactics, students are prepared for practical teaching. Especially during the practical semester, experiences made in school lessons are linked to studies of subject didactics. In teaching degree programs designed for grammar and comprehensive schools, students choose two school subjects. Thus, in addition to Computer Science, students are enrolled for a second subject as well as Educational Sciences. The practical semester is a key component of the degree program.
