About Master of German

The subject of German in the Master of Education degree program offers a broad education in German studies and a balanced content mix between methodology/theory, linguistics, literature, cultural studies and media history. Students deepen their knowledge of central areas of German linguistics while giving close consideration to modern research questions and analytical processes. Another key part of this degree program is exploring theoretical concepts from the areas of literature and media studies as well as questions of literary history. The Master of Education degree program systematically expands on the knowledge and competencies acquired in the bachelors degree program, but with a stronger emphasis on subject didactics and practical school matters (as opposed to subject-specific research). In modules on subject didactics, students learn about teaching German as a school subject and deepen their theoretical and methodological knowledge of didactics. In teaching degree programs designed for grammar and comprehensive schools, students choose two school subjects. Thus, in addition to German, students are enrolled for a second subject as well as Educational Sciences. The practical semester is a key component of the degree program.
