About Master of Greek

The subject of Greek in the Master of Education degree program focuses on Greek language acquisition as well as Greek literature, linguistics and cultural studies. A thorough education in Greek language and cultural studies are equally important. With regard to subject knowledge, the degree program has a dual focus. Enhancing students practical Greek skills by expanding their knowledge of syntax and style as well as translating complex German sentences into Greek is one key area. Another key area is the study of literature from the Greek archaic period, classical period, Hellenistic period and late antiquity through which students gain insight into the current state of research on authors, genres, topics and epochs of Greek literature. While students in the bachelor's degree program focus on building subject-specific knowledge, the Master of Education degree program puts a stronger emphasis on educational sciences and subject didactics. Students learn about theories of language teaching and learning as well as the role of Greek in multilingual teaching and study the didactics and methodologies of foreign language instruction, giving special consideration to differences with regard to language and culture as well as other forms of heterogeneity within learning groups. In teaching degree programs designed for grammar and comprehensive schools, students choose two school subjects. Thus, in addition to Greek, students are enrolled for a second subject as well as Educational Sciences. The practical semester is a key component of the degree program.
