The Bachelor of Science in Psychology teaches students general psychological principles, research methods and selected applied psychological subjects.
The general psychological principles studied include theories on general human experiences, and relate to psychological processes such as perceiving or thinking, the behavior of people in groups or the development of a person over their lifetime.
To address scientific questions, you will learn about, and use, research methods including, for example, experiments, assessments, and observations, and perform statistical data analyses.
During modules in applied psychological subjects, you use the general psychological principles learned to solve practical tasks and problems from the field of Clinical Psychology, for example on the effectiveness of certain therapies, or from the field of Work and Organizational Psychology, for example, on the optimization of organizational structures.
Starting in the fall semester 2021/2022, the new general bachelor's program in Psychology (B.Sc.) at the University of Mannheim will implement the requirements of the new German medical licensing regulations for psychotherapists (Approbationsordnung). Depending on the selected subject-specific focus, the program qualifies students for a master's degree in clinical psychology and psychotherapy or for a master's degree in psychology with additional areas of application. The focus can be chosen upon completion of the third subject-specific semester.
