About Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours)

Overview The proposal to transfer the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) program at International Islamic University of Malaysia from Kulliyyah of Science to Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences was discussed during the plan to establish the Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences (263rd Senate Meeting, 25th January 2002; 265th Senate Meeting, 29th March 2002). In subsequent discussions after the establishment of Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences, it was agreed that the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) program would continue to be under Kulliyyah of Science until Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences was fully developed and in position to run the program well. This is a full-time undergraduate program. Students will be awarded a degree in Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) after completing 140 credit-hours of course works. The duration of studieswill be a minimum of eight (8) semesters which is equivalent to four (4) years (normal duration) and a maximum of twelve (12) semesters which is equivalent to six (6) years (normal duration). The mode of offering of all courses will include lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals, seminars, presentations, problem-based learning, case studies, industrial training, and co-curriculum.Career Opportunities:The demand for graduates in science areas is high. Investigation and diagnosis of the diseases, health management, medical therapy procedure production and analysis on the effect of pollution to human depend so much on the laboratory tests and investigations. Hence, Biomedical Sciences graduates are expected to be employed as researcher or scientist, science officer, research officer, underwriter, and academic staff, respectively at the government hospitals, public health laboratory, private pathology laboratory, public research institutions, and health-related industry as well as at the public or private higher education institutes.
