    About Graduate Diploma in Music

    Study a new subject at an advanced level or learn about more recent developments in your original Music discipline.

    The Graduate Diploma in Music (GDipMus) is a flexible 120-point programme that you can tailor to your goals. You can select courses from 200 to 500 level but must include at least 75 points at 300 level or above. Your choices will need to be approved by the director of the School, and you may be able to include courses from other qualifications at Victoria University of Wellington.

    You'll complete the GDipMus in two trimesters if you're studying full time, or in up to four years if you are part time.

    You need to have already completed an undergraduate degree to study the GDipMus, but it can be in a discipline other than Music. However, you may need to audition for Performance courses and submit a portfolio for Composition/Sonic Arts courses.

    Offered by New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī, the GDipMus can also prepare you for study in your new subject at postgraduate level, such as the Bachelor of Music with Honours or the Master of Music.

    IELTS (Academic): minimum overall score of 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0

    TOEFL: minimum score of 90 for the internet-based test with a minimum of 20 in writing

    Pearson Test of English: minimum score of 58 (with a ‘Communicative’ score of not less than 50)

    Victoria University of Wellington English for Academic Purpose (EAP) programme: minimum final scores of 4,4,5,5

    Cambridge English Qualifications: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176 or higher, with each skill score no less than 169

    New Zealand Certificates in English Language (NZCEL): Level 5 (Academic)

    NZAPA: English New Zealand Accredited Pathway Assessment Level 3 (with no skill lower than Level 2)
