Overview
This module aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to design and implement a viable plan for strengthening pharmaceutical systems in any given context.
Pharmaceutical systems are essential for equitable and affordable access to quality medicines and their appropriate use. They are a foundational element for health systems and a prerequisite to Universal Health Coverage.
Maturity of pharmaceutical systems varies between health systems and health programs within the same health system. To facilitate the strengthening of a pharmaceutical system requires a critical understanding of the challenges and gaps to address, key actors involved, available resources and potential enablers and barriers to change.
Assessment is a 2,000 word assignment. Employing the ‘5-step’ approach to capacity strengthening introduced here, you will be supported to progressively develop a pharmaceutical system strengthening plan (in the form of a case study) that could realistically be implemented in practice given the considerations listed above.
