Research overview
There are two routes to a PhD in Economics: direct entry to PhD and entry through an integrated one year Master of Research, from which students progress to the PhD in Economics lasting four years.
The MRes runs when numbers permit and the programme includes:
- a one-year MRes during which you will attend a number of modules covering the tools, techniques and literature necessary to allow you to conduct research at the forefront of the economics discipline
- four years (maximum) PhD during which you will conduct your independent research under the guidance of world-renowned faculty
- two supervisors who will help ensure smooth progress of your research work
- support and resources to enable you to participate in the scientific community and achieve a top job market placement
Applications to the PhD programme should, in the first instance, be for direct entry to PhD. But you should note your interest in MRes on your application if the additional research training appeals to you. The school's Admissions Officer, Maria Garcia de la Vega, can provide advice on the alternative routes to PhD.
