The Mathematics (BS) - General Mathematics degree is designed for students who wish to customize their program to their specific interests. The program includes a 21-hour Career Support Concentration that complements the required mathematics courses in a way that helps students toward their educational goals. For students wishing to go to graduate school in mathematics, this can allow for more advanced studies in mathematics or for other students this can be customized to their exact interests.
As a student in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, you will be taught by tenure track faculty in small classes and receive individualized attention both inside and outside of class. You will have opportunities to conduct research alongside a faculty member or participate in an internship. The strong analytical and problem-solving skills you will develop can be applied to many fields.
Appalachian's Mathematics (BS) degree requires students to select a concentration area. Besides General Mathematics, other predesigned concentrations are in Business, Computation, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Secondary Education and Statistics. Students can also design their own concentration with consultation from a faculty advisor.
