About Bachelor of Classics

An undergraduate concentration in Classics furnishes students with a broad liberal education, and provides specialized training for those students intending to enter graduate school. Students may choose to study Ancient Greek, Latin, Sanskrit, and/or Modern Greek, and to explore courses in literature, mythology, history, philosophy, and religion. Students may either pursue the standard Classics concentration - the most popular choice - or one of several optional tracks: Greek, Latin, Greek and Latin, South Asian Classics, Sanskrit, Greek and Sanskrit, or Latin and Sanskrit. Concentrators who pursue an honors degree write a senior thesis, typically over the course of two semesters during their senior year.

The study of Classics focuses on the languages, literature, history, culture, and legacy of Greco-Roman antiquity.

Requirements and Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Classics at Brown University

Entry Requirements

You should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.

National and International Examinations

You should plan to sit for national and international examinations, such as the GCE A-levels, German Abitur, French Baccalauréat, Chinese Gaokao and International Baccalaureate and submit the predicted or actual scores for those examinations as part of your credentials for admission to Brown. We expect the actual scores to be submitted before matriculation. At the time of application, you and your school should submit a request in writing if you are in a national curriculum but are not planning on taking the corresponding external examinations.
