Overview Biochemistry is one of the largest undergrad majors on campus (~7th largest at CWRU). Research is a key part of our major, and there are many excellent research opportunities within our department and the School of Medicine. Plus, with easy access to nearby hospitals, such as Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, and the VA, you will have around 200 labs from which to choose.CurriculumThe Undergraduate Biochemistry Program leading to a Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A.) is intended for students whose primary objective is to move into a career where a strong background in biochemistry will be beneficial.The B.A. program places less emphasis on the quantitative and physical sciences than the B.S. program and allows students greater flexibility in course selection. For this reason, the B.A. program is recommended for most pre-medical students. However, the B.A. program is also well suited for students considering graduate school in the biological sciences.The undergraduate biochemistry program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) is intended for students who have an aptitude for the quantitative sciences and whose primary goal is to become a professional biochemist.The B.S. program in Biochemistry provides students with a strong background in both the fundamental aspects of modern biochemistry and in the quantitative physical sciences.
