This program prepares you to teach students in grades 9-12. In early and diversified field experiences, you will have significant opportunities to broaden and deepen your understandings of mathematics teaching and learning. In addition to higher-level mathematics courses, you will complete five courses designed specifically for secondary mathematics teachers. About Bachelor of Mathematics Teaching
Field experiences and clinical practice are critical program components that allow you to apply your knowledge, skills and dispositions in a variety of classroom settings. Field placements are selected and structured with the aim of drawing on the richness of diversity that our location in Upstate South Carolina affords. These field placements are supported with course work that prepares you to cultivate the talent inherent in all students, with a particular focus on students who have been underserved in their mathematics schooling experiences. Field experiences represent a variety of early and ongoing school-based opportunities in which you may observe, assist, tutor, instruct or conduct applied research. These experiences extend the South Carolina Assisting, Developing and Evaluating Professional Teaching (ADEPT) performance standards into practice in school settings.
In your classes, you'll have chances to participate in undergraduate research projects that will strengthen your connections between theory and the practice of teaching. Our focus is on preparing you to recognize, value and cultivate the talent in all the students you will teach. We have specially designed courses geared toward teaching mathematics content, and our mathematics-specific methods courses provide opportunities to deepen content knowledge and develop strategies to mathematically engage your future students at deep levels.

Entry Requirements
For the 2022 admissions cycle, Clemson has adopted a test-optional policy. Applicants are not required to submit a standardized test score to be considered for admission to Clemson for the 2022-2023 academic year.
If you choose that test scores should be used, your scores must be submitted electronically by the respective testing agency. Clemson’s institutional code for SAT is 5111, and the code for ACT is 3842. Clemson super-scores both the SAT and the ACT. For the SAT, this means that the overall total SAT score will then be derived by taking the highest of the evidence-based reading and writing/math scores.
According to The ACT, superscoring at Clemson means that we “consider a student’s highest ACT section (or subtest) scores regardless of test date. The super composite ACT score is calculated as the average of the best ACT English, Reading, Math, and Science subject scores and is used as one of multiple factors in admission and financial aid.”
