About Bachelor of Financial Planning

The College of Applied Studies offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Financial Planning. This program prepares students to become effective and successful financial planners and is registered by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. Upon graduation, will be eligible to sit for the Certified Financial Planning Examination (CFP) and be proficient in the academic, professional and applied skills required for a success in a financial planning career.
The goals of the Financial Planning program include:
- Prepare students for entry or advancement in their desired financial planning-related careers with integral financial knowledge and
interpersonal skills
- Provide students hands-on experience applying skills related to financial planning
- Help students develop quantitative and qualitative skills to be a critical consumer of research, financial policies, and related laws
- Equip students with advanced knowledge of financial planning and building a foundation for their careers
- Engage students in interdisciplinary coursework that further equips students in the applied skills necessary to be successful in financial planning-related careers – including courses from Entrepreneurship, Psychology, and Communication.
Additional skills to be developed from this graduate program include student competencies of:
- Integrating knowledge about financial markets, estate planning, tax laws, and risk management to develop financial and investment recommendations
- Determining needs of clients and building appropriate financial plans
- Evaluating effectiveness of financial planning activities
- Understanding the importance of effective communication and interpersonal skills when working with clients of different backgrounds
- Engaging with ethics in decision making
- Utilizing applied skills from other academic fields to build a foundation for a fruitful financial planning career

Entry Requirements

Applicants whose educational history has not followed a curriculum patterned after the U.S. educational system are encouraged to submit their academic records to a foreign-credential-evaluation agency for a secondary-school evaluation to include a grade-point-average calculation.
- If your school follows a U.S. patterned curriculum, you will be asked to complete the Self-reported Student Academic Record (SSAR). To learn more about the SSAR, view our FAQ.
- If your school follows an exam-based curriculum, you will be asked to submit official or certified copies of your exam results.
- All other applicants should submit official or certified copies of all secondary-school records and secondary-school evaluation. All credentials from non-U.S. institutions must be evaluated before the application deadline by a foreign-credential-evaluation agency to include a U.S. equivalent grade point average. We recommend a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. All academic records should be issued in the native language and be accompanied by a certified English translation.

- All transcripts/academic records that are not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations.
- To be considered "certified," documents should be true copies that are signed and dated by an educational official familiar with academic records. Any translated record should be literal and not an interpretive translation. Documents signed by a notary or other public official with no educational affiliation will not be accepted.
- If the transcript/academic record does not indicate the degree earned and date the degree was awarded, separate proof of degree is required.
Applicants whose native language is not English should self-report English proficiency exam results.

How to Apply for Bachelor of Financial Planning at Florida State University
