Entry Requirements

In addition to the general requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Applied Linguistics and English as a Second Language have the following requirements: A typed statement of professional and academic goals that is at least two to three pages in length. Three letters of recommendation, preferably from academic references. For non-native speakers of English, official scores on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) .

For students required to show English Language Proficiency for summer 2020 and fall 2020, Georgia State accepts Duolingo English tests as one of the new English proficiency tests. To register for the test, please go to go.duolingo.com/applicants. The Duolingo English Test can be taken online from a computer with a camera. Certiﬁed results are available within two days and can be shared instantly with the university. For 2020-2021 admissions cycle, any changes on the admissions requirements will be updated on the website under the guidance from the University System of Georgia.
