    Illinois Techs Master of Power Engineering program prepares students with applicable and theoretical knowledge in power electronics through study in the areas of electric power, power electronics, motor drives, electric machines, renewable energy technologies, and sustainable energy systems.

    The Certificate in Power Engineering program provides power engineers with a solid foundation in the design and analysis of large-scale power systems and state-of-the-art power conversion systems, including power systems control, power electronics, motor drives, design of fault-tolerant systems, power markets, and fundamentals of power system operation and planning.

    Entry Requirements

    Certificate programs typically require a set of three to four courses that must be completed in three years with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Note: some courses in the certificate program may have prerequisites.

    Students who are admitted to masters degree programs may apply coursework previously taken in a certificate program toward the requirements for the masters degree.

    English Program Requirements

    International students who fit into any of the following categories will be considered to have met the requirement:

    • Residents of a country where English is the only official language and who is a native English speaker
    • Graduates of U.S. high schools
    • Completed the equivalent of Iowa State’s English 150 or 250 with a grade of B or better at an accredited U.S. 2 year or 4 year college or university.

    CONDITIONAL ADMISSION

    If you meet all admission requirements but do not meet our English proficiency requirements, Iowa State offers conditional admission to attend our Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). If you would like to enroll in IEOP, on the application choose "I would like to enroll in Iowa State’s IEOP program before I begin the academic study.”
