Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education

The B.S. in Middle Grades Education is designed to prepare effective teachers for learners in the middle grades (grades 4 through 8) and leads to initial teacher certification in two content areas (language arts, mathematics, science, or social studies) for grades 4-8 in Georgia.

The program emphasizes advancement of candidate understanding of adolescent development, educational psychology, curriculum, assessment, and teaching strategies particular to the teaching of middle grades education. Through year long clinical experiences, candidates apply all they have learned so that they can impact the learning of all of their students.

Program of Study

The program includes 120 total hours, including 42 hours of Professional Education courses. All students complete 60 hours of General Education courses. Candidates choose to concentrate study in two of the following content areas, declaring one area as "primary" and the other as "secondary":

NOTE: The Reading Education concentration is no longer admitting students. Students who complete EDRD 3320 prior to or during the fall semester of 2017 will be allowed to complete the concentration. First-Year Student Announcement:

First-year students applying to Kennesaw State University for the Summer, and Fall 2023 semesters may be admitted without an ACT or SAT score if they have a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
